Apostles and prophets are part of the fivefold ministry and serve as foundational stones or builders. They also represent “the shoulders,” which symbolizes governance and a governmental role. They are placed within the church, both in primary and secondary positions, making them unique in their own right. It’s not about one being more important or superior; it’s all about their respective functions.
They are like two sides of the same coin, looking similar yet being distinct. They share commonalities and differences, which sometimes lead to confusion, with prophets thinking they are apostles and vice versa. Apostles and Prophets represent various dualities: Logos and Rhema, General and Specific, Models and Seasons, Order and Freedom, Building and Moving, Systematic and Flowing, Mental and Sensitive, Wisdom and Insight. They embody characteristics found in both the Lion and the Eagle and represent the “2 Wings” of the Eagle. They maintain balance and strong roots in both the Word and the Spirit, Love and Truth.
For many years, apostles and prophets have operated independently, but we are now living in a time when God is bringing them back together. The key to this reconciliation is their mutual understanding and submission to God’s Word and biblical patterns. Humble hearts, sound doctrine, and good teaching are essential to make this happen.
Apostles assist prophets in seeing the bigger picture, grounding them in God’s Word, and strengthening them mentally and emotionally. They offer context, wisdom, and oversight. Prophets, do you have apostolic input in your life and ministry? Are you functioning as a lone ranger or a team player?
Prophets excel in discerning the spiritual realm, understanding the hearts of people, discerning the dynamics of gatherings and the flow of the Spirit and seasons. They help apostles remain flexible and sensitive, providing spiritual insights that apostles can use to make wise decisions. Apostles, do you have prophets on your team?
Apostles and prophets complement each other. While they can each chase a thousand independently, together they can chase ten thousand. They are a powerful force and foundational instruments for building individuals, God’s House, and advancing the Kingdom.
May apostolic and prophetic teams rise!
